Introducing the Black Arm

The Black Arm is a hard-mount three-axis stabilizing system made for a variety of camera gimbals. Designed to absorb large and small movements, high-frequency fluctuations from road noise and engine vibration.

 

The damping action of all axes; vertical, tilt, and roll are created by custom-made actuator hydraulic dampers that are fully adjustable. A 22-step knob enables you to precisely dial in the amount of damping you need for your shot.

 

The Black Arm is purely mechanical – it is easy to use and maintain. Mounting the Black Arm is as simple as clamping it onto a standard 48-52mm speed rail and you’re ready to go.

Black Arm Cam Jam

The Black Arm is available in two versions: the Standard and the Complete with your choice of Anti-Vibration Mount.

 

The Standard supports gimbals and cameras weighing 5-13 kg (11-28 lbs), while the Complete handles heavier loads of 5-32 kg (11-70 lbs).

 

The Standard can be upgraded to the Complete if needed.

 

The Standard ships with one damper for each of the three axes, while the Complete ships with a total of six dampers, allowing for dual dampers on each axis if needed, or as spares.

 

The Standard ships with two light springs, while the Complete ships with a total of eight springs, two light and six heavy springs.

The Wire AVM

The Wire Anti-Vibration Mount (AVM) is a robust and user-friendly solution designed for effortless setup.

 

Simply mount it to your Black, attach your rig, and you’re ready to go. For those with multiple camera or gimbal rigs, you may require different anti-vibration mounts to accommodate varying weights.

 

After selecting your package, choose the correct AVM that best accommodates the total weight of your rig. 

The Tranquilizer

The Flowcine Tranquilizer is designed to deliver improved vibration isolation. Minimizes vibrations from low frequencies and maximizes motor torque without causing self-oscillation, a common issue with wire rope isolators. 

 

The Tranquilizer uses custom polymers instead of wire rope, allowing you to adjust the resistance and quantity of polymers to optimize your set-up’s weight accommodating heavy to light rigs. It ships with two polymer sets (shore 30 and shore 40) and additional sets can be purchased for various weight ranges.

Tranquilizer Weight Ranges

The Tranquilizer includes two polymer sets (shore 30 and shore 40). Additional sets (shore 20, 50, and 60) are sold separately.

 

  • Shore 20 weight range: 5.40 – 10.75kg
  • Shore 30 weight range: 6.70 – 13.25kg
  • Shore 40 weight range: 11.25 – 22.50kg
  • Shore 50 weight range: 13.75 – 27.50kg
  • Shore 60 weight range: 19.00 – 34.50kg

Note: The Tranquilizer is designed for underslung operation.

Flight case

The Black arm ships in a flight case. The Pro Case is made in all-black, to perfectly match the Black arm. It features powder-coated black metal corners, heavy-duty recessed handles and butterfly catches. It also has wheels, so you can roll the case just like a cabin bag. To match the clean exterior, the foam in the Pro case is all black.

Female Mitchell Mount

The Female Mitchell Mount attaches right onto the Mitchell Plate of the Black arm. It allows mounting of any standard Male Mitchell mount attached to your gimbal or remote head.

Male Mitchell Mount

The Male Mitchell Mount is the perfect fit for mounting your gimbal or remote head-on to our Female Mitchell mount.

Mitchell Plate

Mitchell Plate

The Mitchell Plate is a connecting plate between the Tranquilizer/Wire AVM and your Female Mitchell Mount or gimbal/remote head.

Mitchell Nut

The Mitchell Nut is a Mitchell Castle Nut, that is more narrow than most castle nuts, allowing it to fit through the rods of our Female Mitchell Mount.

Rigid Nose Mount

Front Extension Blocks

For larger frame gimbals, you may need to extend the Black Arm slightly. The Front Extension Blocks are available in three lengths: 100mm, 180mm, and 300mm.

 

Typically, the 100mm block is used for the DJI Ronin 2, the 180mm block for the Shotover G1, and the 300mm block for the Freefly MoVI XL. The additional length adds leverage, so we recommend a lower max load for the arm.
